School History

Established in 1957, I.S. Dev Samaj Senior Secondary School began its journey in Sector 18, Chandigarh, as a girls-only high school with a limited number of students. Its founding vision was rooted in the mission of Bhagwan Devatma, who placed special emphasis on girls’ education as a means of social progress and transformation.

Recognised by the Punjab Education Department, the school moved to its own campus in Sector 21-C in 1959. It has been functioning under the Grant-in-Aid system since 1967. In 1988, the school expanded its educational offerings to include senior secondary classes, and since 2007, it has been functioning as a co-educational institution.

Over the decades, the school has grown into a leading educational institution, operating at its full capacity of approximately 2,000 students. It is widely regarded as one of the finest aided schools in the Tricity and enjoys a distinguished reputation for academic commitment, discipline, civic responsibility and all-round development.

The school has also earned the trust of government institutions and departments, from the Governor’s House to the Deputy Commissioner’s office, and is frequently chosen to participate in government initiatives, public programmes and civic activities. Its students have brought laurels to the institution by winning trophies at the Republic Day and Independence Day parades for the last two consecutive years.

A defining feature of the school is its emphasis on moral education and character building. Guided by the philosophy of Bhagwan Devatma, Dev Samaj institutions follow a distinctive approach to nurturing values alongside academic learning. The Founder identified sixteen special days, observed throughout the year, each dedicated to a meaningful human relationship or moral ideal. These observances help students develop empathy, respect, responsibility and integrity, preparing them to become conscientious citizens and responsible members of society.
